The Origin Story
VibesNearby wasn't built from a business plan — it was built from real experience on the air. In 2001, Alan Bush hosted Feel The Power — a Saturday morning radio show airing 11am–12 noon on CyberstationUSA.com, produced through Cameo Broadcasting Systems at 151 New Park Avenue, Hartford, CT.
The show ran under the format of News, Talk, Interviews & Variety Music — with a worldwide potential reach of 225 million listeners wherever there was an internet connection. Cameo was an affiliate of the American Radio Network (KCLA/KLAS FM, Los Angeles), giving the operation real national broadcast credentials. The rate card, the coverage map, the ad spots — this was professional radio, not a hobby.
That experience — guided in part by Gary Lajoie of Cameo Broadcasting — made one thing clear: airtime is a media asset, not just a timeslot. When a creator holds a recurring weekly slot, they're not just buying broadcast time — they're building a platform. They can run their own commercials, bring in their own sponsors, promote their own events, and build a fanbase that belongs to them.
Traditional commercial radio never offered that to independent voices. Internet broadcasting changed the equation — and VibesNearby, now based in New Haven County, Connecticut, is built to make the most of that shift.
What We're Building
VibesNearby is a creator-owned airtime marketplace — DJs, artists, podcasters, and community voices rent recurring radio slots and program them themselves. The station handles distribution, promotion, and sponsor matching. The creator handles the content.
The magazine side — daily music news, artist spotlights, industry features, and event coverage — feeds the same mission: getting Connecticut's independent music community seen, heard, and paid.
Beyond vibesnearby.com, the network extends across three platforms: radio and content on .com, artist discovery and community on .net, and direct artist monetization — tips, bookings, tickets, and sponsorships — on .live. Together they form a complete growth funnel for any independent artist or creator serious about building something real.
